Facebook, you funny bitch...
Facebook has become essential. Thats not a joke. I have grown to use it almost 90% as networking for music ( I save 10% for miscellaneous commenting.) It's a mostly positive medium in that you can promote shows, promote friends and create a "fan base"....but the negatives are funny. How funny? funny enough that a LOT of comedians can do an entire set on the topic alone.
Take Morgan Venticinque, for instance....one of the comedians regularly at Caffe Vivaldi Monday Nights (very funny guy.) He recently pointed out how uncomfortable it is to "suggest to friends" your "fan" page. Usually a comedian hits on a topic that I can relate to, and I'll laugh...loud (i like to laugh.) But this topic had me laughing and sweating...and thinking, "I do that all the time..." and he's right, it's THE WORST. There's self promotion, which is great and smart, but then there's just flat out asking people to "like" you...and that's not easy to do.
The point of this post is to make sure you know that I cringe right before I click the "send" button every time, it's TRUE! And you might be saying, "then why don't you stop doing it, Matt?" and that's a valid question, but the fact of the matter is this is the medium of the times and you gotta stay on top of this shit. I guess the idea Im trying to accomplish with this blog is to have one major hub acting as a conduit to all of the madness on the internet ...from a neurotic's point of view, I like to have everything in one place (as you can tell by the right side of this homepage) because in a perfect world you want everyone to follow you in one place, but that's just not going to happen.
Im a big believer in the 'Less is More' philosophy when it comes to songwriting/production/guitar playing/clothes and all that...but try as I might, when it comes to Networking, it's just not the case. It's a big F#$%@$ ! pond and we're all goldfish. It's all part of the dance.
In all seriousness though, "Like" my FB page, "Subscribe" to my blog (on the right side, click the EsMatteo! button) and come to all of my shows...(see what I did there?)
