Best Kept Secret...Sisters?
While perusing the website of Jack White's record label, Third Man Records, in search for the Conan O'Brien record (which I bought and should finally arrive this week, thanks to a lengthy backorder) I stumbled upon a singing group called The Secret Sisters. Third Man Records is pretty great in concept, and if ever I'm back in Nashville, you can bet your ass I'll stop by and check it out. I don't exactly know how it works, but from what I can gather, they only have artists put together a 7" A/B side & all the production is done on site (photo/recording, etc...) To top it off, it seems to me Jack White often joins/produces these artists and their records. Pretty insane.
The Secret Sisters have a full length record coming out in October, produced by T-Bone Burnett (WHAAAT?!) and you can hear some of the tracks on their MySpace page. The tracks you CAN'T hear in their entirety are the Third Man Records 7" recordings. "Big River" which is an old country song done up SO BAD ASS by these 2 ladies and Jack White, that all you need is 30 seconds and your socks are blown off. The B Side is "Wabash Cannonball" which from the clip sounds more like their regular speed & style, but to me that's a perfect 45. You want to blow people away and the B side is just another taste of what they've got. Both of these recordings will appear on the full length when it's released but you can buy the 7" at the Third Man Website.
I highly recommend you check them out, and if you're in the NYC area thursday night, get some tickets to Joe's Pub to see these country girls do their thing. I'm pretty damn excited for it.
